Taylor Swift’s birthday has come and gone — and despite reports that Travis Kelce was giving the newly 34-year-old the gift of a massive birthday bash, it turns out he “has a job.” Apparently being in the NFL makes it hard to just jet out to New York and throw a huge party on a Wednesday for your girlfriend. Who knew?
Earlier this week, a source told Us Weekly that Kelce wanted “to throw the best party possible” for his pop-star girlfriend. That was a tall order, considering Beyoncé once went to Swift’s birthday party. How are you supposed to top that? According to the source, “money is not an object” for the Chiefs tight end, and he wanted all of Swift’s “close friends” to be there. Well, I’m not sure that beats Beyoncé being there, but it does sound fun.
On Tuesday, Swift participated in what the tabs called a “pre-birthday” celebration. That’s when you go to Zero Bond with Selena Gomez, Miles Teller, and Keleigh Teller. It’s also when you skip the Time Person of the Year gala to hang out with your friends, despite the fact that you were Time’s Person of the Year. Not in tow was Kelce, who we now know was at work.
People confirmed that Kelce would be staying in Kansas City for Swift’s birthday. The tabloid reported that Kelce had “mandatory practice” on Wednesday but that the couple had celebrated Swift’s birthday at a holiday party in Kansas City on Sunday. Perhaps you saw the photos.
In Kelce’s stead, Blake Lively was on Swift’s arm as they headed downtown to to celebrate her birthday. The two were photographed in sleek all-black outfits walking into the Lower East Side club Outer Heaven. Waiting inside were friends of Swift that included Jack Antonoff, Zoë Kravitz, and Antoni Porowski from Queer Eye.
It all worked out in the end. Traylor got to celebrate together, Swift got to do her favorite thing as of late (go out in New York), and we all got to watch. If you feel like you haven’t celebrated enough, you can still get Swift a present. The Eras Tour film is now available for home rental, which means you can give her the greatest gift of all: more of your money.
